Indeterminate prison sentence for convicted rapist

A Cynon Valley man described as a ‘dangerous individual’ has been given an indeterminate sentence for the rape of two women and wounding of another.

Nigel Dunn, 28, from Aberdare, pleaded guilty to five charges relating to four different women including rape, wounding and assault.

Yesterday at Merthyr Crown Court he was given an indeterminate sentence for two rapes and a wounding offence.

He was further sentenced to nine years for the rape of third woman, and two and a half years for an assault causing actual bodily harm on a fourth women, both to run concurrently with the indeterminate sentence.

Dunn, who the judge described as a dangerous individual, will not be considered for parole for six years.

Nigel Dunn’s victims have released the following joint statement: “Our lives will never be the same after the trauma Nigel Dunn has put us through.

“We were physically, mentally, financially and emotionally abused and controlled by him.
“We are satisfied with the court’s decision to give him an indeterminate sentence and relieved that no-one else will suffer like we have.

“We would urge any woman who is suffering from physical and mental abuse to seek help from the police.”

Speaking after the hearing, Detective Chief Inspector Phil Jones, head of CID in Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taff, said: “Nigel Dunn subjected his victims to appalling physical, sexual and emotional abuse.

“He took complete control of their lives until they were isolated from family and friends and living in a continual state of fear.

“They have shown immense bravery during this investigation and we hope today’s sentencing will give them the confidence to further move on with their lives.

South Wales Police would encourage victims of any kind of physical abuse not to suffer in silence and to contact us in confidence as there is help available and offenders will be brought to justice.”
