Inspirational Cardiff Sailors Bring in the Lord Nelson

The first voyage of the newly formed Jubilee Sailing Trust Cardiff and South Wales team will dock in Cardiff this weekend.  The trust helps people with disabilities to sail tall ships. On board the first voyage are 16 members of crew from Cardiff and South Wales.

The Jubilee Sailing Trust, set up over 30 years ago to promote the integration of people of all physical abilities through the challenge of adventure sailing, will officially launch its operation in Wales this weekend.

The trust has two vessels, The Lord Nelson and Tenacious, which are uniquely designed and built to enable people of all physical abilities to sail.

To promote the new Cardiff and South East Wales initiative, the Lord Nelson will arrive in Cardiff on Sunday, September 26 and stay until Tuesday September 28.

The spectacular ship will arrive at the Roath Basin following an eight day voyage from Glasgow, and on-board are 16 crew members from Wales who have mixed physical abilities.

The ship will be docked in Roath Basin for three days and members of the public are invited on board.

Executive Member for Housing, Communities and Social Justice, Cllr Judith Woodman, said: “It’s fantastic that Cardiff and the South East of Wales will now have a dedicated Jubilee Sailing Trust team.

“The charity provides a fantastic opportunity and is a great example of how disabilities shouldn’t hold people back in doing what they want to do. I wish the trust every success with their new venture in Wales.”

John Stanton from the Jubilee Sailing Trust, said “We are delighted to expand our service into Wales and this time next year we want to be able to have a full South Wales Crew of 40 on board. I would encourage anyone interested in taking part in this trip to get in touch ”.
