Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has paid homage to soldiers from all over Ireland who lost their lives in the two world wars by signing a book of remembrance at the National War Memorial Gardens in Dublin this week.

Darren, who has Irish roots and is Chair of the Cross Party Group on Armed Forces and Cadets, signed the book following an Act of Remembrance by a delegation of the British Irish Parliamentary Assembly, of which he is a member.

He said:

“As an Irish citizen it was a great honour to commemorate those from all  over Ireland who died in the service of the British army in the First World War.

“As two Celtic nations, Wales and Ireland have a special bond and I know there are many people here in Clwyd West, who, like myself, have strong links to Ireland and recognize the sacrifice that these Irish soldiers made.

“With the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War fast approaching, it is more important than ever that we pay tribute to the memory of those from across the whole island of Ireland who gave so much for our freedom.”
