Ironstone – an international exhibition of contemporary cast iron sculpture

The Arts Council of Wales is delighted to be working in partnership with Sculpture Cymru, the Sixth International Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art and Cadw on this remarkable exhibition of cast iron sculpture at Kidwelly Castle.

They said: “It is a pleasure to be representing such a diverse and talented group of artists from an international field. All are skilled with working with iron, and have applied their considerable experience to pioneer new and innovative techniques to extend the appeal of sculpture.”

The Castle itself offers a dramatic setting for viewing the sculptures and the hope is that visitors can enjoy and appreciate viewing the contemporary alongside the ancient surroundings of this monument.

A 72 page fully illustrated catalogue to accompany the exhibition is available, and includes essays by Dr Peter Wakelin on the history and development of iron casting in Wales, Robert Harding on the work of sculptors currently working with cast iron and Shelagh Hourahane on the development of sculptural practices in Wales.
