The first day at school is a key milestone in all children’s lives, and the city of Cardiff Council is reminding parents of children in Cardiff who are due to start primary school in September 2015 of the importance of registering their preferred school options.
Parents of children born between September 1 2010 and August 31 2011 who have already provided the City Council with their child’s details will be sent preference forms in October to enable them to submit their preferences for schools. But if the Council doesn’t have their details, now is the time for them to get in touch with the Admissions Team.
Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, Councillor Julia Magill, said: “If you are a parent of a child born between September 1, 2010 and August 31, 2011 and they’re not in a community nursery or a nursery funded by the City Council, it’s important you contact School Admissions by September 5 so that you’ll receive information on the application process in the Autumn.
“Every year we have parents who are very disappointed that they cannot get their children into the schools they would prefer because they have missed the deadline for expressing preferences and all the places are taken by the time they apply.”
There are three easy ways to make sure you receive a preference form. You can visit www.cardiff.gov.uk/schooladmissions to provide your child’s details, call the Admissions Team on 029 2087 2909 or email your child’s name, address and date of birth to [email protected]
The deadline for applying for school places is Monday December 1, 2014 for secondary education and Monday, January 12, 2015 for primary education. Parents with children going into secondary education in September 2015 will receive information on the application process in the Autumn Term, so there is no need for them to get in touch with the Admissions Team as it will already have your child’s details. For children not attending a Cardiff Community Primary or Church School parents will need to provide their child’s details.
