Commenting on the statement from the Welsh Labour Government outlining its proposals to set targets to be reached by 2050, all to be contained in a Future Generations Bill, Mark Isherwood AM, Shadow Minister for Local Government, Communities & Housing, said:

“Labour has been in power in Wales for a generation already and more people are waiting longer for treatment, the standard of education is ranked amongst the bottom half of OECD nations and Wales remains one of the poorest parts of the UK with the lowest wealth creation per head.

“Labour’s failure to improve either the standard of public services or the Welsh economy fails to inspire confidence in any promises or targets Labour Ministers may be making for the future.

“Communities in some parts of Wales, which after 15 years of successive Welsh Labour Governments remain amongst the poorest in Europe, are not interested in warm words and empty promises.

“Labour has betrayed a generation with its broken promises and failed targets, subsidising hopelessness rather than empowering people to live better lives.”
