People of all ages are being invited to join a fun run around Ynysangharad War Memorial Park this winter – to help raise money for the park’s war memorial appeal.
The Santa Family 5km Fun Run will set off around the Pontypridd park on Saturday, December 4, 2010 from 11am. All money raised through sponsorship will go towards the park’s war memorial fund.
A public appeal was launched in October for donations towards the War Memorial and Roll of Honour for Pontypridd’s fallen heroes. There is currently no memorial which names all the brave men from Pontypridd who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom of future generations.
The mayors of Rhondda Cynon Taf and Pontypridd Town joined forces with the Royal British Legion to officially launch the appeal, which is hoped will raise £150,000 towards the project.
Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Cllr Simon Lloyd, said: “We are honoured as a local authority to answer the calls of the general public who have asked for a fitting Roll of Honour in Pontypridd to remember all those from the area who fell in conflicts throughout the world.
“I hope many people will join the fun run around our beautiful park this December and enjoy the day knowing that money raised, including the entry fee, will go towards the Pontypridd War Memorial Appeal.”
Entry to the fun run is £10 per adult and £5 for a Junior (under 16yrs). This includes entry to the Fun Run, a Santa Suit, a medal, mince pie and a hot drink on completion. Juniors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Registration is from 10am.
