Jones Welcome Changes to Cold Weather Payment Calculations

Clwyd West MP, David Jones, today welcomed the conclusions of a review undertaken by the Met Office into the location of the weather stations that determine eligibility for cold weather payments.

Pensions Minister Steve Webb today announced that new weather stations at Hawarden Airport and Capel Curig are to be included as part of the 2010/2011 Cold Weather Payments Scheme and that readings from those stations would be used to determine eligibility for payments in parts of Clwyd West formerly served by stations at Crosby on the Wirral and at Lake Vyrnwy.

David Jones:

“This statement amounts to a proper recognition of the topographical differences present within my constituency for the purposes of determining entitlement under the Cold Weather Payments Scheme.

“Use of the Crosby and Lake Vyrnwy readings has negatively impacted upon a number of my constituents.   The new stations should produce readings that more accurately reflect the true temperatures on the ground and ensure that elderly residents get the payments they are entitled.”
