Joseph rockets ahead to win Space-Hop challenge

More than 2,000 young bookworms from across the Caerphilly county borough took part in a special reading challenge at local libraries this summer and one lucky winner has scooped a cash prize.

The annual ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ has become a popular feature of the Caerphilly Library Service over the last 12 years and this year was no exception.

‘Space-hop’ was the theme and youngsters from all over the county borough really went to town, decorating giant cardboard rockets and participating in space-related activities.

To celebrate their achievement, two winners from each library were invited to attend a grand presentation ceremony at Penallta House council offices recently.

The prizes were awarded by Cllr James Fussell, Mayor of CCBC, in partnership with writer and broadcaster, Phil Carradice. The overall prize winner was Joseph Baker from Aberbargoed, who was thrilled to receive a £100 Argos gift voucher.
