Jump to it at new athletics club

Running, jumping and throwing are all on the menu for boys and girls at a new weekly athletics club at Cowbridge Leisure Centre.

Organised by the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Dragon Sport team, the club for children aged under 11 meets every Tuesday afternoon between 4pm and 5pm and costs from £2.50.

The Vale’s Dragon Sport Co-ordinator Rachel McGuinness said: “The athletics club is really fun and is a great place to go along to with your friends and have a go at various events.”

Dragon Sport is a Sport Wales initiative funded by the National Lottery which is designed to offer fun and enjoyable sporting opportunities for youngsters aged seven to 11 in eight key sports – tennis, rugby, football, netball, hockey, golf, athletics and cricket. The flagship scheme also aims to recruit and train volunteers who wish to assist, set up or run clubs.

Meanwhile, older girls aged up to 14 can stay fit for summer at weekly multi-fit sessions which follow the new athletics club from 5pm to 6pm.
