Junior Road Safety Officers appointed at Eagleswell Primary

The Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO) for Eagleswell Primary School in Llantwit Major have been appointed for the school year 2010/11.

Jaya, Mason, Shannon and Thomas were chosen from their job application forms which had to be completed and sent in, as in real life, for a panel of experts to choose from.

Eagleswell’s JRSO coordinator and school crossing patrol Alison Richardson and Vale of Glamorgan Council road safety officer John Rogers were on hand to present the new additions with their fluorescent/reflective uniforms at a special school assembly, where pupils were reminded of the importance of ‘being safe and being seen’ over the winter months.

The new JRSOs will help promote road safety issues throughout the school by raising awareness through running competitions, keeping notice boards updated and speaking at school assemblies.

Mr Rogers said: “We wish them all good luck and hope that they have an enjoyable and responsible year ahead in their vital roles at JRSOs.”

Eagleswell is one of 32 JRSO schools in the Vale, with the figure set to climb to 33 soon as Ysgol Pen y Garth in Penarth becomes the first Welsh school in the area to join the scheme.

Please note that Eagleswell Road, between the junctions of Monmouth Way and Leigh Close, will be closed until 3 December in order to allow for the removal and replacement of a railway bridge. Everyone is asked to take extra care at this time, particularly outside the school. Please use an alternative safe route if necessary.
