Responding to news that the Welsh Labour Government is to give two Welsh councils additional funding to better co-ordinate rural bus services, Byron Davies AM, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Transport, said:

“Labour’s cuts to the Bus Services Operators’ Grant have resulted in bus services across Wales being axed and leaving vulnerable people in rural communities stranded.

“Having seen millions of pounds cut from bus services, passengers will hardly be cheering Labour Ministers for announcing a mere £100,000 to better co-ordinate services in just two of Wales’ 22 local authorities.

“In many rural areas, buses are a lifeline and provide the only means of getting anywhere, but Labour Ministers are not doing enough to make it easier for people to use public transport.

“This announcement is a drop in the ocean compared to Labour’s cuts to bus services and demonstrate Labour’s failure to deliver the integrated transport network needed to build a prosperous economy.”
