Jenny Willott MP with girls from Lakeside Primary at Girls Get CodingJenny Willott, Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, has met girls in Parliament from Lakeside Primary School in Cardiff, who were taking part in Girls Get Coding.

Girls Get Coding is the UK-wide campaign to encourage girls aged 9 to 12 to learn the basics of computer programming.

Jenny Willott MP was taught by the girls how to do simple programming tasks such as change features on a game and was presented with a certificate.

Commenting, Jenny Willott MP, said:

“It was great to welcome the girls to Parliament and see them show off their coding skills. The girls showed me that coding can be great fun.

“Coding is a very important skill to many different areas of work, such as social media, music, education, medicine and design; it’s not just about designing computer games.

“By learning these skills at an early age, I hope it will inspire girls to think of a range of studying and career options. It will show them the opportunities available to them and will hopefully ensure they have long and successful careers doing something that they enjoy.”
