Creative shoppers of all ages can take part in a lantern making workshop at the weekend in preparation for a special Christmas parade.
Visitors to the Eagles Meadow shopping centre in Wrexham on Saturday (November 26) will be able to take part in the festive fun from 10 am to 4 pm.
The fruits of their artistic labour will be finished in time for the Frosty Lantern Parade which will be led by Father Christmas and his sleigh pulled by the snow dogs.
The lantern parade will be part of the final festivities planned to mark the end of Wrexham’s Year of Culture and it will begin at Eagles Meadow shopping centre, one of the main sponsors, on December 1 from 6 pm.
Kevin Critchley, Eagles Meadow manager, urged families to come down to the shopping centre on Saturday to make their lanterns at the workshop.
He added: “It is great to bring the Year of Culture in Wrexham to an end in a similar fashion to how it started – with a community lantern parade.
“We have been delighted to be one of the main supporters of Wrexham’s Year of Culture because it is all about working together to shout about everything that is great about the town. As the main shopping centre, we are an essential part of the Wrexham community so it is only right and proper that we should get behind whatever is going on in the town to promote its many positives.”
Councillor Bob Dutton, Lead Member for Communities and Performance at Wrexham Council, said: “It is such an exciting time when Father Christmas comes to Wrexham. We would like as many people as possible to join the frosty lantern parade and create a warm welcome for him.
“This parade is the perfect way to mark Wrexham Year of Culture coming to an end. The year will finish as it began way back in January with the stunning light fantastic lantern parade, and we aim to make this lantern parade even better!”
There will be other lantern making workshops also taking place at Oriel Wrecsam in the lead up to the Christmas parade alongside the one taking place at Eagles Meadow on Saturday.
