Aerial view from Castle Gardens smallNational restaurant chain Las Iguanas is all set to open in Coastal Housing’s latest city centre development.

The lease has been signed and the restaurant is due to open in May 2015.
Las Iguanas will occupy one of the ground floor units at Coastal Housing’s Castle Quarter development on Wind Street, adjacent to Swansea Castle.

When open, the restaurateur will occupy, in total, just over 5,000 square feet.

Las Iguanas already has 38 Latin American-themed restaurant bars in the UK, including two in Cardiff, and has its own sugar plantation in Brazil.

Gareth Davies, Coastal Housing’s Director of Development said: “We’re delighted to soon be welcoming Las Iguanas to Swansea. I’m sure they will provide the city centre with an economic and social boost.

“Castle Quarter is a unique development and we believe it will prove a real success offering high quality, affordable accommodation and desirable commercial premises in the city centre.”

Stewart Emery, Operations Manager for Las Iguanas said, “Having run successful restaurants in South Wales for many years we are thrilled to finally be bringing Las Iguanas to Swansea. We know that a lot of our fans have been waiting avidly for the launch in May and we can’t wait to unveil our colourful slice of Latin Life at the top of Wind Street.”

Work on the Castle Quarter development started in May 2013 and is being carried out by local building contractor Dawnus.  The scheme is due to be completed shortly.

When complete the development will consist of 26 affordable rented apartments, with a further four duplex units overlooking the castle available for private purchase.

The remaining commercial unit, further down towards The Strand, consists of just over 3,700 square feet of space and is currently being marketed by EJ Hales.
