Hundreds of people of all ages have been making colourful lanterns over the last two weekends as the countdown begins to this year’s River of Light Parade in Caerphilly (Thursday 17th December).
This weekend sees the last FREE lantern workshops taking place at Caerphilly Leisure Centre – so this is the final chance for anyone wanting to be involved in the event to make their own lanterns.
The River of Light Lantern Parade celebrate its 10th anniversary this year and hundreds of people will proudly parade through the streets of Caerphilly with their lanterns before gathering at the castle to watch a spectacular fireworks display.
Caerphilly County Borough Council and their team of artists who help out at the lantern sessions have been overwhelmed with the turnout to date. The final set of workshops take place this weekend – 12th and 13th December between 10am and 5pm.
This year the lanterns are made from laminated pouches – they are colourful and encourage creativity. Children who wish to take part in the workshops must be accompanied by an adult if under 12 years of age, with no more than four children per adult.
