Launch Meeting for the development of a Buckley Masterplan

The first formal meeting to discuss a Masterplan for Buckley has taken place. Discussions between the project steering group and the consultants undertaking the work were held at the town council offices on Monday.

Regeneration and urban design specialists Urban Practitioners have been appointed to undertake the work, with a final masterplan document expected to be completed by late January 2011.

The project steering group includes officers from Flintshire County Council, along with County Council and Town Council representatives and the Buckley Town Centre Manager.

Urban Practitioners are also working with property experts Savills and transport specialists, JMP, to develop the masterplan. The study is intended to set out a new future for Buckley, helping the town to become more vibrant and attractive to both local people and visitors. It will look at opportunities for new commercial development, both retailing and offices, as well as investment in leisure and cultural facilities.

Cllr Matt Wright, the Council’s Executive member for Economic Development and Tourism said:

“The condition of our town centres is of great importance to the County Council. We want them to be attractive, buoyant and sustainable places, of which local people can be proud.”

This study will involve a number of stages including consideration and appraisal of a number of options for improvement and development.

The public will be kept fully involved, with a number of consultation exercises planned, including an exhibition, probably early in the New Year, together with questionnaires to help understand local views.
