Launch of Llŷn Coastal Festival 2012

The Llŷn Coastal Festival will once again this year be an opportunity for local people and visitors to celebrate the area’s traditions and maritime heritage.

A host of events will be held throughout the summer months including talks and lectures; guided walks; and fun days on local beaches where activities will include competitions, stalls, games and free kayaking sessions.

The Festival will be launched on Sunday, 13 May with a free guided walk around the Llanengan area under the leadership of Gareth Roberts, who will give a flavour of the area’s rich history.

Everyone who intends to take part in the walk should come to Canolfan Llanengan by 1pm and the round trip should last around two and a half hours. Suitable footwear is advised. Tea will be provided in the Ganolfan following the walk.

Elin Hughes, Llŷn AONB Projects Officer, said:

“This summer’s schedule promises to be very exciting, with all kinds of activities on offer – from learning about the history of shipwrecks in Llŷn to an opportunity to participate in water sports. There is something for everyone.

“The Festival is organised by the Llŷn Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The overall aim of the AONB is to conserve and to enhance the area’s natural history and landscape and to raise awareness of Llŷn’s heritage and nature.

“I would encourage everyone who is interested in Llŷn’s local culture to visit the Llŷn AONB website to see what is available, and to join in the fun.”
