Books, reading and stories of all kinds were celebrated across Pembrokeshire this week to mark World Book Day.
Schoolchildren and adults alike enjoyed a variety of storytelling sessions at Fishguard, Milford Haven, Pembroke Dock and Tenby libraries.
At Milford Haven library, children’s illustrator and author Jackie Morris of St Davids read her own books to local children. Included among the stories were ‘Tell me a Dragon’ and ‘The Seal Children’ – a scene from which is depicted in a mural on the wall of the library.
Meanwhile, storyteller Melissa Holloway, who lives in the Preselis, entertained visitors to Tenby Library with several stories from across the world – including South Africa, where she is from originally.
The sessions were hosted by Pembrokeshire County Council’s library services, and supported by a grant from the Welsh Books Council.
Primary and secondary schools in Pembrokeshire also held dozens of events, from pupils dressing up as favourite book characters to storytelling sessions, book quizzes, visits from children’s authors, book fairs, and pupils from different schools exchanging postcards on their favourite books.
World Book Day is the biggest annual event celebrating books and reading across the globe and is now celebrated in over 30 countries.
