‘Light’ Entertainment this Christmas

‘Rivers of Light’ are set to flood the streets next month, with festive lantern parades being planned across the Caerphilly county borough.

From Blackwood to Rhymney, Bargoed to Caerphilly, spectacular lanterns will be paraded through the streets, as families, community groups and organisations turn out in force to take part in these fun and entertaining festive events.

Why not come along and get prepared for these parades by taking part in the lantern making workshops that are being hosted across the county borough?

Cllr Lindsay Whittle, Leader of the Council said, “These fantastic festive parades provide a fun activity for the whole family in the run up to Christmas. I would encourage as many people as possible to come along and get involved, and help turn our magnificent town centres into ‘rivers of light’ this Christmas”.

Caerphilly’s FREE lantern-making workshops take place on 4th/5th, 11th/12th and 18th/19th December this year at Caerphilly Leisure Centre, so why not join in with the activities and get in the festive spirit. Once you have made your lantern why not take part in all the parades and make the most of showing off your finished lantern?

Workshops are a great activity for the whole family to get involved in, and help get imaginations active. Spend as much or as little time as you want making your own design, and with the help of the lantern making experts, make them as simple or be as creative as you like.

Whether you are a regular at the workshops or a first timer, with the support available, you can produce something really special to show off at the parades this year.

Caerphilly’s River Of Light Lantern Parade is the finale in the calendar of processions, acting as a real celebratory occasion in the lead up to Christmas.

On 23rd December, the town centre will light up as hundreds of proud lantern makers display their masterpieces. Accompanied by samba, dance and entertainers, it really is a magnificent way to end the annual events programme for Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The procession leaves Caerphilly Railway Station Park and Ride at 6.30pm and is followed by an explosive fireworks display.
