Lights, Camera, Action!

Budding filmmakers from throughout Wrexham are being encouraged to enter a Europe-wide competition.

Wrexham’s Europe Direct is calling on the creativity and technical skills of young people studying subjects such as communication and film for the production of short, fun and entertaining promotional films on two of the European Union’s services: EU Bookshop and Ted (Tenders Electronic Daily).

The contest is open to all educational establishments based in one of the 27 EU Member States or an EEA (European Economic Area) country.

Eleanor Staple of Wrexham’s Europe Direct said: “This is a great the perfect format for young people to show their creativity to a Europe-wide audience. Both the BookShop and Red are vital components of the EU and this is a great opportunity for the young people of Wrexham.”

The winning film for each of the two services will be awarded €5,000 (approx £4,245), the films in second place will be awarded €3,000 (approx £2,547), and those in third place will receive €1,000 (approx £849).

The winners and the runners-up will be invited to a special award ceremony at the Publications Office in February 2011 at our offices in Luxembourg.

The deadline for submissions is 17 January 2011.
