West Coast Energy, the renewable energy developer based in Mold, has announced that it is sponsoring the Rhos Boys Choir.

The company, which also sponsors Clwyd Theatr Cymru’s FUSE and FUSE ON workshops for young people with additional needs, will be helping the new choir provide rehearsal space for practice.  The first performance by the choir will be as part of the St David’s Day Concert on March 1st, at the Stiwt Theatre in Rhosllannerchrugog at 7pm.

The boys’ choir is the junior section of the highly successful Rhos Male Voice Choir, who will also be performing at the concert.  Last year the choir won top awards at both the National Eisteddfod and International Eisteddfod, part of a run of notable award victories the choir has enjoyed over the last few years.

Steve Salt, Planning and Public Affairs Director at West Coast Energy, said:

“We’re delighted to be supporting Rhos Boys Choir.  West Coast Energy is a Welsh company and we are very pleased to be able to support our local and national culture in this way.  We take our commitments to supporting the local community very seriously and we see our sponsorship as a key part of that support.”

Geraint Phillips, Secretary of Rhos Male Voice Choir, said:

“It’s great to receive this support from West Coast Energy. A lot of choirs in Wales have been struggling to find new members in recent years but we have had a lot of enthusiasm from young lads eager to join up, and now we will be able to give them the rehearsal space they need to develop as a choir.  This funding will help ensure we keep choir singing as a healthy and vibrant part of our proud cultural heritage”.

Tickets for the St David’s Day Concert, with special guest Joshua Owen Mills, are £10 (£8 for concessions) and are available from the Stiwt Theatre – go to www.stiwt.com or call 01978 841 300.
