Long-term future of Ruthin hospital secure

Darren Millar, Assembly Member for Clwyd West has welcomed reassurance from Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board about the future of Ruthin Community Hospital.

Following an announcement that 15 beds would be cut from Ruthin Community Hospital to deal with winter pressures, Darren met with the Chairman of Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board to discuss the hospital’s future.

Speaking after a visit to Ruthin Hospital this week, Darren said:

‘Following meetings with the Health Board’s senior management, I am satisfied that Ruthin Hospital’s long-term future is secured. I have been reassured that Ruthin Hospital is an important part of the NHS estate and it will continue to operate as a local community hospital.

‘Despite the planned changes to reduce bed over the winter period, I understand that going forward the Health Board has plans to expand specialised services for orthopaedic patients at the hospital in the future.

‘It was good to visit the hospital to meet patients and see at first hand the dedication and commitment of hard-working hospital staff.

‘I hope the Health Board will keep the public, clinicians and medical staff fully informed about developments at the hospital and any further changes to services in our area.’
