Young Swansea outdoor fans are urging people to show more care when they visit the city’s parks.
Swansea Council’s Junior Park Rangers Club has organised a poster competition aimed at encouraging people to clear up their litter and dog mess in Swansea‘s parks.
The idea for the competition came from the Friends of Parc Llewellyn who recognised that the problem exists in parks across the city and that something needs to be done about it.
Ten-year-old Holly Katy Jacobs Turton, of Uplands, designed the winning poster. It will now be professionally designed and displayed on notice boards in Swansea‘s parks.
The Junior Park Rangers hope their efforts will help lighten the load of dedicated park staff and remind the public of their responsibilities when it comes to clearing up after themselves.
Adam Mason, Swansea Council Community Parks Officer, said: “There’s been an increasing problem with litter and dog fouling in parks across Swansea and it’s something we’re looking to stop.
“With a lot of children using the parks on a frequent basis we thought it would be appropriate if they were the ones to promote the message of keeping parks clear of unwanted mess.”
The Junior Park Rangers Club provides an opportunity for all children in Swansea aged between four and 11 to get involved in their local park.
The scheme offers free activities and events at community parks including art and crafts sessions, music workshops, sports fun and children’s entertainment.
Members receive regular newsletters and meet on the second Saturday of each month.
