New Narratives – 2010 Academi Conference

We don’t always need to tell – sometimes retelling is better. A few writers out there have suggested that in a green world the new is always made from fragments of what went before. It is the way the retelling goes that makes it new. Have all the words we ever need already been said?
On Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 February 2010 Academi will hold their annual literary conference at Gellifawr Hotel and Cottages in Pembrokeshire’s beautiful Gwaun Valley.

New Narratives will explore some of the ways Wales is currently using literature to reinterpret, to refashion and to retell. Should we ever be done with our greatest legends? Damian Walford Davies thinks not as he tracks back through the Mabinogion. Niall Griffiths and Malcolm Pryce retread their way through Aberystwyth. If you think you knew that place then think again. Joe Dunthorne turns fiction into film while Tom Anderson hunts for that place where the fact of travel becomes the fiction of the mind.

Spend a long weekend with Academi at an engaging and comfortable retreat in the lost Gwaun Valley of the slow far west. The older ways may indeed be nearer the surface here but see how our new writers can make them spin.
