Monmouth Assembly Member Nick Ramsay is alerting constituents to look out for central heating scams following the revelation by the Citizens Advice Consumer Service that hundreds of people across Wales have fallen victims to fake firms or scammers.
As Scams Awareness Month draws to a close, the Citizens Advice Consumer Service has revealed that the number of enquiries about central heating in Wales more than doubled compared to the previous year – but half of those enquiries concerned a scam.
Urging people to be on the look put for fake energy saving deals, Mr Ramsay said : “Shockingly, over five hundred people in Wales were taken in by these scammers, and the real number may be even higher as only five per cent of scams get reported.
“While there are many genuine energy saving deals available, it’s vital that people look out for scams and check firms out before signing up. Going direct to your supplier may be the best way to find out what help you can get.”
