The Lord Mayor of Swansea is taking St David’s Day celebrations to a whole new level thanks to a special event taking place in Wales’ tallest residential building.
For Cllr Ioan Richard has organised a charity fundraising Welsh Cakes and coffee event at the top-floor Grape and Olive in Meridian Tower in Swansea to celebrate the nation’s Patron Saint’s Day.
It’s one of two special St David’s Day events being arranged in aid of the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal that includes a Mansion House ‘Cawl a Chan’ evening on March 2.
And it follows on from the Lord Mayor’s St Dwynwen’s Day charity event on January 25 at the Mansion House for which all the tickets have been sold.
Cllr Richard said: “I’m really enthusiastic about the St David’s Day event at the Grape and Olive. There’s not a residential building in Wales from where you can enjoy such outstanding views up and down the Bristol Channel as well as into the mountain country of South Wales.
“I really can’t think of a better, more exciting place to enjoy Welsh cakes on St David’s Day and I’m really grateful to the Grape and Olive for their support in allowing me to take over the restaurant for the morning.”
Proceeds from the event will go to the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal which is aiming to raise money for the medical wards in the city’s hospitals at Singleton and Morriston.
Tickets are £6 per person for the Grape and Olive event. It starts at 10am for 10.30 and runs until noon.
The following evening’s ‘Cawl a Chan’ event at the Mansion House features a two-course Welsh-themed supper which will include live entertainment, proceeds from which will also raise funds for the medical wards. Tickets cost £12.00 per person and are limited in number.
Tickets for both events can be obtained by contacting the Lord Mayor’s Office on 01792 635150.
