New Group Shows “We Care”

The families and friends of those with cancer are being offered support, care and a warm welcome at a new group launching in February.

“We Care” enables family, friends and carers to come together, share experiences, secure support and information and simply be among like-minded people. Free craft sessions will take place at each meeting and refreshments will be provided free of charge.

It forms part of the unique work being delivered jointly by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Macmillan Cancer Support, which is the first of its kind in Wales, offering cancer information and advice services in each of the County Borough’s 28 libraries.

Supported by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Carers’ Support Project, “We Care” takes place in Pontyclun Library on the 1st Thursday of the month from 10-12noon, starting 2nd February.

It is open to people of all ages and it is hoped they can come together from across the County Borough to meet, share experiences, secure new friendships and support systems and simply know they are not alone.

The Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care and Well-being Cllr Mike Forey said: “The Council is pleased to support such an innovative scheme which will give carers the opportunity to come together to share their experiences, thereby helping to overcome many of the problems they face on a day-to-day basis because they can advise one another.

“Such a support mechanism is incredibly important for the many carers in Rhondda Cynon Taf and we look forward to the positive impact “We Care” will have on the lives of very many residents.”
