Love Where You Live 2012

It time to show just how much you love where you live as the fourth annual love where you live awards opens its doors for entries.

Do you Love Where You Live? Are you a green fingered resident that goes over and above the call of duty to keep our County Borough clean and green? Or maybe you know someone who is championing the green message across Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council needs all its residents to Love Where They Live and join the fight against waste in order to keep our County Borough a clean, green place for all to enjoy.

It is proud of the effort so many people, from all walks of life go to in order to create and protect eco-friendly households, streets, neighbourhoods and communities.

From ensuring they recycle as much material as possible, to raising awareness of environmental issues in the community, volunteering and even clearing litter left behind by others, people are making a difference and Loving Where They Live in so many different ways.

The effort being undertaken by people is inspiring and also shows how living a cleaner, greener lifestyle can also be great fun and bring communities together.

That is why the Council is looking forward to its annual flagship Love Where You Live event.

The Love Where You Live 2012 awards will be held to celebrate and highlight the excellent work that is taking place by individuals, community groups and Streetcare staff to make Rhondda Cynon Taf a cleaner, greener, County Borough.

You can now nominate your 2012 eco-heroes for Love Where You Live.

There are 14 categories for the competition and there is no limit on the amount of different categories each applicant enters.

  •     Best School Environmental Initiative
  •     Best Community Project
  •     Best Environmental Partnership Initiative
  •     Best Environmental Service Team of the Year
  •     School Environmental Champion (Pupil)
  •     School Environmental Champion (Teacher)
  •     The Envirovision Song Quest Champion
  •     Local Authority Environmental Champion
  •     Business Award
  •     Best Kept Community
  •     People Award
  •     Best School Recycling/Waste Poster Design

Entering the Love Where You Live Awards is simple; you just need to fill out a short entry form that must be submitted by 30th March 2012. Applications will be placed before an independent panel of judges. The chosen finalists will be visited during May before the overall winner of each category is decided.

The awards take place every summer in the Muni Arts Centre, Pontypridd and are set to take place on 12th June 2012. But the Council wants you to start thinking of possible nominees already so plenty of applications can be received.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Frontline Services Cllr Anthony Christopher said: “Annually the Love Where You Live Awards has grown to become one of the highlights of the Rhondda Cynon Taf calendar as it involves so many different sections of the community who are committed to improving the local environment for the benefit of everyone.

“The entire concept, which was the brainchild of our Streetcare Team, has long-since been recognised as a positive, and even pioneering, approach to educating and inspiring the general public to assist us in improving their community.

“This is our opportunity to not only congratulate them on their achievements, but encourage others to follow suit. By working together we can make Rhondda Cynon Taf an even cleaner and greener place to live, work and visit.”
