Maes Bodlonfa Skate Park in Mold is officially opened

The Skate Park at Maes Bodlonfa in Mold has been officially opened. The park has been built as a result of an extensive consultation period with children, young people and the local community.

Funding of £125,000 from Flintshire County Council and Mold Town Council has provided a flood-lit facility for scooters, BMXers and skaters. A group of enthusiastic local skaters and BMXers have been involved in the design of the park, and also in the campaign to advocate for the park.

The skate park was officially opened this afternoon (Monday 20 February) by Councillor Hilary McGuill, Chair of Flintshire County Council and Councillor Ray Dodd, Mayor of Mold. Councillor McGuill said:

“This is a great facility for all youngsters. I was impressed by all the hard work the young people have put into this project and hope they will get great use out of it for many years to come. It will provide a safe environment for them to enjoy a variety of wheeled sports.”

The Executive Member of Leisure and Public Protection, Councillor Dennis Hutchinson, also attended the opening.

Councillor Hutchinson said: “It will be wonderful to see the park open and fantastic to witness how the result of much hard work and dedication by the children, young people and community of Mold, has achieved the successful completion of this project by providing a wonderful, first-rate facility.”

The Mayor of Mold, Councillor Ray Dodd, said: “I am delighted to be here today at the formal opening of the new wheeled play facility in Mold. It has taken some time to come to fruition but we now do have an excellent facility which I am sure will be well used both now and in the years to come”.

“Can I also express my thanks to the younger people of the Town who have helped to ensure the facility has been constructed and waited so patiently to display their talents on the equipment. My thanks should also go to both the County Council and the Town Council for providing an area for the young people and perhaps some older residents to practice their skills, to play and to have fun”.
