Maesteg Residents Urged to take Crime Prevention Measures Following Spate of Thefts from Parked Cars

South Wales PolicePolice in Maesteg are urging residents to take appropriate crime prevention measures following a spate of incidents involving overnight thefts from parked cars.

Local policing inspector Paul Thomas said: “We have seen a number of thefts from unlocked cars, specifically in the Garth area recently and we believe thieves are walking around at night, targeting unlocked parked vehicles, and vehicles with valuables left on display”

“Even if your car is parked up on the driveway, motorists should always lock their cars and remove any valuables.

“By leaving your vehicle unlocked and valuables on display you are significantly increasing the chances of you becoming a victim of crime.”

Officers are continuing to patrol the areas in order to prevent and detect further offences.

Inspector Thomas added: “We will continue to carry out patrols in the areas but it is very difficult to detect a theft where a car door has been left unlocked and property removed from inside.”
