Maindy to Host Free Community Fun Day

Maindy Centre is gearing up to host a spectacular free community fun day this Saturday (September 3) between 12 and 4pm.

A huge range of fun and exciting activities will be on offer for all members of the family to try – absolutely free of charge!

There will be something for all ages and everyone is welcome to come along.

Children will be able to get a close look inside a real fire engine and police car and the road safety centre staff will be on hand to offer road safety advice and tips on how to keep bicycles safe.

Outdoor sports, free swimming and giant pool water walkers are planned for the youngsters whilst older family members can try out new fitness classes and learn about massage and alternative therapies.

Cathays Youth Band will be providing the sound track for the day as they perform jamming sessions and when the crowd gets hungry they can visit the Embassy Café.

Visitors are also invited to pick up cooking tips and recipe ideas at one of the Live and Cooking demonstrations.

The event will be delivered by Cardiff Council in partnership with UWIC, South Wales Police, Safer Capital, Cathays High School, Embassy Café, Cathays and Central Youth and Community Project, Live and Cooking and Cardiff Catering.

Maindy Centre boasts a 25m deck level swimming pool, BMX and cycle track, 56 station gym, sprung floor dance studio and a state-of-the-art indoor cycling studio, which contains Trixter workout bikes.

It is also home to the Cardiff Road Safety Centre which offers a wide range of road safety programmes from school crossing patrol training to mature driver refresher courses.

The programmes have been developed for people to experience simulated real life situations by using driving simulators external traffic features such as pedestrian crossings, roundabouts and traffic signals.

Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: “Maindy Centre is a fantastic facility with lots on offer to the community.

“The fun day is a great incentive to get local people into the centre and experience what it has to offer as well as promoting an active and healthy lifestyle.

“We welcome everyone from the local area and from all over the city to drop in and try out the many activities going on.”

During the day why not also find out about Cardiff Council’s leisure discount card – ‘The Active Card’. Members of staff will be on hand all day to personally show you around the centre and chat about what you aspire to achieve and how we can help you get there.
