Manselton Primary School will re-open on Monday

Swansea’s Manselton Primary School will be re-opening on Monday (October 11) after the completion of urgent remedial works.

The dislodging of a tile from the school’s roof during heavy winds led to a temporary closure but scaffolding with protective screens has now been put in place to prevent any tiles that may be dislodged in future from falling to the floor.

The work was deemed necessary after Council surveyors visited the Victorian-built building earlier this week and it meant the school was closed from Monday October 4 to Friday October 8.

Cllr Mike Day, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “We’re happy with the works that have taken place and are pleased it will be back to normal at Manselton Primary School next week.

“The safety of pupils, staff and visitors to the school is always our top priority but we do apologise for any inconvenience the works may have caused.”

Manselton, along with Cwmbwrla Primary School, remains the Council’s top priority in the primary sector for a replacement building as part of the QEd (Quality in Education) 2020 programme.

The Authority recently revealed it was planning to apply to the Welsh Assembly Government for funding for a single school on a new site to replace the two schools.

Swansea Council’s
Cabinet has agreed consultation with parents, pupils, governors and other local people can begin after half-term as a first step in this process.
