Visitors to Neyland Marina in Pembrokeshire in recent weeks have had the rare opportunity of seeing two of the RNLI’s state-of-the-art Tamar class all-weather lifeboats berthed there.
The first in – for repairs to one of her engines – was the Angle lifeboat Mark Mason (16-11), which remained at the marina for three days.
She was replaced at Angle by the Victor Freeman (16-13), which had been on relief duty at Tenby for many months, until that station’s Tamar Haydn Miller (16-02) returned in August from a major refit.
When work on the Mark Mason was completed, the Neyland berth was taken over by the Victor Freeman, which remained at the marina for a further two weeks.
Marina manager James Cotton said that, as RNLI ambassadors, Neyland Yacht Haven Ltd did not charge berthing for any RNLI vessels – a generous gesture which saved the lifesaving charity over £550 in charges of £34.88 per night for a 16 metre vessel staying in the lower basin.
