Max Out for a Pound at Western Leisure Centre

Western Leisure Centre is running a special promotion that allows new and existing Max Card holders the use of the centre for just a £1 throughout September.

The four-week programme aims to raise awareness of Cardiff Council’s leisure discount card which entitles many people to substantial reductions for various sport, leisure and cultural activities across the city.

Throughout the September promotion, the centre is providing a range of activities to encourage local residents to come and use the facilities at the special discounted price.

The special offer is aimed at encouraging members of the local community to make the most of the facilities on offer at the centre and all the fantastic opportunities to get active and healthy through fitness and sport, as well promoting the venue as a place for social interaction.

Activities include gym sessions with a gym induction, group fitness classes, swimming and taster spin sessions. There are also junior activities for children such as tag rugby, football, dance and street dance, swimming and soft play for under-fives.

Members of the public can meet the staff at the centre and have a look around the facility whilst taking the opportunity to try different activities for just £1.

The Max Card is available to Cardiff residents who receive one of a range of benefits or those aged between 16 – 18-years-old in full-time education.

MAX cards are usually issued through the Post Office however throughout this month a member of staff will be running free sign up sessions twice weekly at Western Leisure Centre. To sign up for a Max Card, members of the public must bring along proof of eligibility for the scheme.

The annual card offers discounts for a number of leisure activities, up to 50 per cent off at Council-owned facilities and up to 30 per cent off at a number of private partner facilities.

Western Leisure Centre in Ely was refurbished in 2008 and offers a wide range of activities for people of all different levels of fitness. There is a fully equipped gymnasium, three different sized swimming pools, several indoor courts for football and racquet sports, an outdoor multi use games area and a cafeteria.

Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: “This is a first-class leisure facility which provides a wide range of sports and activities to suit all levels of fitness. The Max Card is a tremendous scheme which enables many people to use these facilities at a discounted rate and we encourage people to take full advantage of it.

“We hope that the Max Out for £1 September promotion will get people into the centre and put it at the heart of the local community.”
