Kind-hearted school children in Penygraig have raised an impressive £140 for the Haitian earthquake appeal.
Mayor Cllr Robert Smith was so impressed with their efforts, he visited Penygraig Juniors School this month to congratulate the pupils.
The fundraising efforts began when members of the School Council raised £50 through sales at breakfast time of toast.
Usually, such funds raised go towards things for the benefit of the school and pupils, but the children decided to donate the money to Haiti after seeing the footage of the earthquake on the television and in the newspapers.
They donated the £50 to the appeal and pupils, parents and staff added to the funds by contributing what they could, bringing the grand total to £140.
Mayor Cllr Smith said: “I was so pleased to meet the pupils at Penygraig Junior School and congratulate them on their kind efforts to help those less fortunate than themselves.
“It was a pleasure to visit the school and I hope the global conscience of the young people continues.”
