Sign of the times in Treorchy

Treorchy town centre and its shops and businesses have been given a boost, thanks to eye-catching new promotional signs secured for the area.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Town Centres Team has worked with the premises to design and purchase the signs to signpost visitors to the shops and facilities that Treorchy boasts.

So far, 49 signs have been installed outside shops, cafes and businesses, all featuring the name or logo of the premise.

Made possible thanks to funding from the Welsh Assembly Government and the Heads of the Valleys initiative, the signs have been made and installed by Tonyrefail-based Sovereign Steel.

They have already made a significant impact to the appearance of the town centre and have been welcomed by businesses that are striving to maintain their success.

Cllr Paul Cannon, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Housing, helped unveil on of the most recently-installed signs at Wonderstuff gift shop and tea rooms in Bute Street.

He said: “Now, more than ever, our town centres need us and we are determined to keep supporting them in whatever way we can, via our Town Centres and Business Support Teams, to enable them to grow and flourish.

“The signs in Treorchy have been welcomed as they enable businesses to promote themselves and their wares, but also add a new dimension to the street scene and make the overall area look very attractive.

“We do have more work planned and urge anyone with an interest in maintaining and improving the town centre to make contact with us so we can work together.”

Alison Chapman, Manager of Wonderstuff, said: “The signs are a really lovely touch to the shopping area and are also a symbol that investment continues in Treorchy.

“We were pleased to work with the Council in order to secure the signs for the town and know there is even more planned for Treorchy.”
