A new service called ‘Gwasanaethau Medra Services’ was launched by Tai Ceredigion last week at Hafan Yr Efail Sheltered Scheme with residents seeing firsthand the work which they can undertake. The team consists of estate caretakers and handypersons ready to help the organisation’s tenants.
The association set up Medra after winning a bid for £125,000 of European funding to deliver new services for their tenants and was developed with support from the Ceredigion Social Enterprise Growth Fund, a fund administered by Ceredigion County Council on behalf of the Adfywio Ceredigion Regeneration Partnership and supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Welsh Government.
The services includes estate caretaking to ensure that communal areas are kept clean and tidy, as well as a handyperson scheme for older and vulnerable tenants to assist them with non landlord maintenance such as gardening or minor improvements around the home.
Medra has already been working hard across the county and tenants from the Broteifi Sheltered Scheme are delighted with the work. The Scheme Co-ordinator Louize Davies said “In the last few days we have had paths cleared, unruly shrubs tamed, flower beds weeded, moss removed from the flat roof and paved areas and just a good old tidy up. The place is looking loved again and all our residents are thrilled. The Medra team are polite and courteous and determined to get the place looking ship shape again.”
Steve Jones, Chief Executive of Tai Ceredigion said “We are delighted with the additional funding as it has ensured Tai Ceredigion has not only launched a new service but created seven new full time jobs and up to eight new training places through the scheme. The services will also ensure cleaner, healthier environments and more help for our elderly and vulnerable tenants which we promised to our tenants in our original offer document.”
