Meet the Beat in Burry Port

The Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) in Burry Port are taking to the street with a mobile police station and encouraging residents to come along and ‘meet the beat’.

The mobile station will visit certain areas of Burry Port at specific times. Their location will be publicised in advance with ‘meet the beat’ post cards.

“We want people to feel that they can contact us at any time,” said PC Vanessa Vaughan.

“By having the mobile police station in the community people can see us and come and chat to us. We will let people know where we will be in advance and we will travel around Burry Port so everyone gets the chance to meet the beat.

“We will be at the Stag in Five Roads on Tuesday 5th Jan 2010 between 14:30hrs – 15:30hrs for people to come and meet us.”

Inspector James Davies added, “We realise that it can be intimidating to contact the Police, and go to a PACT meeting. We are trying to make it as easy as possible for people to come and talk to us – you don’t have to report a problem, you can just come along and say hello and find out what is going on in your area.

“We keep saying that crime is low and detections are high, but what does that mean to your village or community? The neighbourhood policing teams can tell you.”

Assistant Chief Constable Nick Ingram said, “I think ‘meet the beat’ is a great idea. Burry Port NPT are the first in Dyfed Powys to use this method of getting out into the community and it shows ingenuity and practical thinking. I hope that people living and working in Burry Port take this opportunity to get out and ‘meet the beat’.”
