Merthyr Tydfil Examination arrangements for Thursday 14th January

EXAMINATION ARRANGEMENTS DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER FOR THURSDAY 14TH JANUARY, 2010

Merthyr Tydfil Local Education Authority (LEA) would like to confirm to parents/carers, students and teachers, that all public examinations scheduled for Thursday 14 th January will go ahead as planned.

With the predicted bad weather forecast over the next few days, a contingency plan has been put in place to ensure that the examinations are able to continue without disruption.

As a result of the inclement weather and in the interest of public safety, examinations to be sat by students from:

.                      • Afon Taf High School;

.                      • Bishop Hedley RC High School;

.                      • Cyfarthfa High School; and

.                      • Penydre High School

will now take place in one central location at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre, Merthyr Tydfil.

Please note: Only Bishop Hedley RC High School students who live in Merthyr Tydfil will sit their examinations in the Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre. Students attending this school from areas outside the County Borough (Blaenau Gwent and Rhondda Cynon Taf) will have been informed by the school of the location of their examination centre.

Students sitting a morning examination are required to be at the Leisure Centre by 8.30 am in readiness for the 9.00 am examination.

For those sitting an afternoon examination, students will need to arrive at the Leisure Centre at 1.00 pm in readiness for the 1.30 pm examination.

Transport Arrangements for Thursday the 14th January ONLY

Due to the severe weather conditions, wherever possible, all students sitting examinations at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre on Thursday 14th Jan, 2010 are encouraged to make their own arrangements for travel to the examination centre.

Limited transport provision will be provided on the following routes. Weather Permitting, (Please keep checking the Council’s website on www.merthyr.gov.uk for updates.)

These transport facilities will be provided by ‘Sixty/Sixty’ coach company

Special Arrangements

Special arrangements may be provided on a priority basis to students with disabilities and to those living in the outlying regions of Ponsticill, Dowlais Top and Bedlinog.

You must call the Emergency number (01685) 385231 to make these arrangements before 8.00 am on the 14th January. This should only be used as a last resort.

Please be aware that should any of the above schools open as normal on the above dates, the examinations will still take place at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre.

With the predicted bad weather forecast over the next few days, a contingency plan has been put in place to ensure that the examinations are able to continue without disruption.

As a result of the inclement weather and in the interest of public safety, examinations to be sat by students from:

.                      • Afon Taf High School;

.                      • Bishop Hedley High School;

.                      • Cyfarthfa High School; and

.                      • Penydre High School

will now take place in one central location.

This temporary examination centre will be located at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre, Merthyr Tydfil.
