Montgomeryshire AM Mick Bates has pledged his support for better services to improve life for people with Parkinson’s, as Parkinson’s UK – the support and research charity committed to improving life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s – launches its manifesto for the National Assembly elections.
The manifesto highlights three main priorities for the Wales Government based on the needs of people with Parkinson’s:
- Everyone affected by Parkinson’s in Wales should have timely access to the right health and social care including a Parkinson’s nurse
- People with Parkinson’s in Wales should be able to get the medication they need, when they need it
- All staff involved in managing care for people with Parkinson’s should have a good understanding of the condition
These priorities make economic sense to the future Wales Government. The economy as a whole will benefit from people with Parkinson’s getting the right health and social care.
Commenting, Mick Bates said:
“I am delighted to support the campaign for better services to improve life for people with Parkinson’s. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Parkinson’s Disease Society branch in Montgomeryshire, we now have a Parkinson’s specialist nurse for North Powys. This is a great step forward, but there is still a long way to go and I congratulate Parkinson’s UK on being such a strong voice for everyone affected by this condition.”
Aileen Napier, Wales Manager at Parkinson’s UK, said: “Too many people with Parkinson’s can’t get the support, services or treatment they need to manage their condition.
“Our manifesto pledges make financial sense for the next Government. The Government can save around £56million by offering the right support through nurses and therapists.”
