Microsoft Award Scam Alert

Cardiff Trading Standards are warning the public to be aware of a scam email purporting to be from Microsoft and offering people a reward of £500,000.

Cardiff residents should be highly vigilant of emails claiming to have selected their email address at random in order to win the big cash prize.

It suggests that all live email addresses are entered into an electronic balloting system and requests winners to forward on personal details to a ‘claims administrator’.

Deputy Leader of Cardiff Council and Executive Member for Housing, Communities and Social Justice, Cllr Judith Woodman said: “This is a completely bogus prize and if these emails are received they should be ignored and deleted immediately.

“Residents should never divulge private or sensitive information or respond in any way.”
