Commenting on the announcement made this week by National Grid that 8 of the 33 mile Mid Wales Connection Project route will be put underground, Montgomeryshire AM, Russell George said:
“There is no great deal of surprise in today’s announcement.
“While a quarter of the proposed network will be placed underground, three quarters of it will not and this means that large, unsightly pylons will be allowed to stalk the landscape, destroying everything that is special about Mid Wales, whilst causing major disruption in the process.
“I’m still convinced that the whole Mid Wales Connection Project is unwarranted and unwanted.
“National Grid continues to ride rough shot over the views of communities. Following today’s announcement I’m going to conduct my own survey across the county to gauge public opinion.”
Meifod County Councillor, Eldrydd Jones, has also expressed ongoing concerns about the local impact of the Connection Project. She added:
“The local community remains resolutely opposed to these proposals and this announcement today will not change that position at all.
“We remain together and unite with other communities across Montgomeryshire and Shropshire to see these proposals stopped and we will do what it takes to make that happen.”
