Midwife Rugby Scorpion in Race for Life

Now that’s a headline I thought we’d never run! Our good friend Sting Scorpion has asked us to pass on this message to you our readers:

They say that Cancer Affects 1 in 3 of us so when you consider your group of friends and family that figure is daunting and these days its not just about knowing someone with cancer its being vigilant of our own health.  So in raising money for cancer research and awareness of ourselves we can help those who are suffering with cancer today and for tomorrow should the situation arise that we need the help for a loved one or ourselves.

Sting Scorpion is the only female mascot in the Rugby League and is the chief cheerleader for the South Wales Scorpions, Wales newest rugby league team. I am a five foot bundle of pink and black fun who loves a challenge especially when I can wear my favourite colour of pink! Every home game I can be found shaking my very pink tail to a different tune each time and greeting the fans, I’ve a mini stingett who joins me in supporting the boys!

My day job is a midwife and I’ve been a nurse for 11 years so have cared for cancer patients and had several relatives who have had cancer and are in remission and sadly those who have died.  Last year a colleague of mine was fortunate to be diagnosed early and received treatment as she was aware of the signs to look for.  I believe in raising money in a fun way not only promotes an increased awareness of signs and symptoms to be vigilant for.

I’ve decided to raise money for one charity a year and due to my uncle dying and 2 aunts being diagnosed with cancer and my friend at work I decided to do the Race for Life.

Ed: We at Welsh Icons encourage you all to support Sting’s worthy endeavour.
