Miles of effort to help soldiers’ convalescence

Staff and customers at a Pontypridd gym have completed a challenge to raise money to help members of our Armed Forces with their convalescence.

Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Mayor Cllr Simon Lloyd congratulated staff at Legends gym, Hopkinstown, where members completed the distance from Kabul to Cardiff (3,617 miles) by using exercise machines.

They raised an incredible £2,100 for Healing the Wounds, the Golden Grove Mansion Appeal. Arfon Williams, a director of the charity, was presented with the cheque by Cllr Lloyd.

The fundraising event started on November 5 and was ongoing until the miles were completed.

The Golden Grove Appeal has been launched to raise funds to enable the purchase of a suitable facility within Wales for the treatment of our Armed Forces personnel, veterans and their families, who are suffering from stress-related illness such as PTSD.

It will also provide a convalescent home to allow them to heal and recover from the traumas of conflict.

Cllr Lloyd said: “Well done to all who took part in the challenge to raise money for this very worthy cause.”
