Darren Millar AM, Shadow Local Government Minister in the National Assembly, has praised Newport Council following a significant increase in the authority’s transparency.
Members of the public can now view councillor allowances, expenses and senior officer remuneration at www.newport.gov.uk/transparency.
The Clywd West AM said: “I want to congratulate Newport for taking this step.
“This is the kind of increased transparency that taxpayers expect to see from their councils.
“Taxpayer funded bodies should be open with the public about where they spend our money. Providing detailed information online is a good way to do this.
“There is no reason why other local authorities shouldn’t follow suit and I look forward to seeing increased council transparency right across Wales.”
