Millar: Labour’s ‘jobs fund’ is “pie-in-the-sky”

Commenting on Labour’s launch of a ‘jobs fund for young people’, Shadow Minister for Economy Darren Millar AM, said:

“I’m glad that Labour have finally recognised the need to take action to address their failure on youth unemployment in Wales.

“Their previous polices weren’t working and thousands of young people across Wales have been let down and are paying the price as a result.

“It will be interesting to hear how Labour intends to fund these uncosted proposals and which budgets they intend to cut in order to pay for them – perhaps they’ll increase their £1bn cuts to the Welsh NHS?

“Instead of making pie in the sky commitments, Labour should adopt our policy of scrapping business rates for small firms to help them create permanent jobs in the private sector, and acknowledge the good work being done by the UK Government to reduce youth unemployment.

“Under the last Labour government, youth unemployment across the UK rocketed by almost 40 per cent.”
