Welsh Conservatives today launched a counter which clocks up, second by second, the damage Labour’s cuts to the health budget are imposing on the Welsh NHS.
The Welsh Labour Government is cutting the Welsh NHS budget by over £800million in real terms over five years. This equates to over five pounds a second.
Since Carwyn Jones’ Labour Government started cutting the NHS in 2010/11, the NHS in Wales has faced the worst budget settlement of all the UK nations.
Darren Millar AM, Shadow Minister for Health, said, “Wales is the only part of the UK where the NHS is being cut due to the short-sighted decision of Carwyn Jones’ Labour government.
“Voters deserve to be told the truth about Labour’s NHS cuts and this new website will show for the first time exactly how much is being cut from the NHS budget.
“Labour’s NHS cuts are having a devastating impact on frontline services with Accident & Emergency departments under threat, waiting time targets being routinely missed and life-extending cancer treatments denied to Welsh patients.
“As the Welsh Government considers its draft budget for the next financial year, Welsh Labour Ministers must reverse their cuts, which are making it impossible for patients to receive the standards of care they deserve.
“Welsh Conservatives remain the only party to have consistently supported protection for the NHS budget and will continue to fight the damage Labour is inflicting on our health service.”
