Millar: LHB debts are a sobering wake up call

Commenting on figures showing Local Health Boards facing a £50million funding shortfall, Darren Millar AM, Shadow Minister for Health and Social Services, said:

“The NHS is in dire financial crisis and these figures amount to a vast bill for the Welsh Government.

“Labour’s stubborn refusal to protect the health budget and prioritise the NHS has led health boards into a mire of unprecedented debt.

“These figures should act as a sobering wake-up call for the Health Minister.

“Hard-working frontline staff and busy local hospitals – already under threat – face an incredibly uncertain future if this chaos continues.

“As it stands, waiting time targets are not being met, vacancies are not being filled and operations are being cancelled.

“These figures make it absolutely clear that improving those areas will be almost impossible in the coming months and years.

“We have always maintained that now is not the time to cut the NHS, yet the Welsh Labour Government is still trying to force through a budget that will pull hundreds of millions of pounds out of its finances.”
