Commenting on figures uncovered by BBC Wales revealing a rise in the number of prosecutions against people who verbally and physically abuse NHS staff, Darren Millar AM, Shadow Minister for Health, said:
“These alarming figures revealing the extent of abuse and violence in the NHS will worry patients, staff and their families.
“Nurses, paramedics and other NHS staff need to be able to treat and care for their patients without the threat of verbal or physical abuse.
“People across Wales rely on the dedication and tireless commitment of NHS staff and the least we can do is to guarantee their safety in the workplace.
“Ministers need to expand CCTV in hospitals and surgeries so the NHS is a safer place to work. We also need to support victims of such attacks to ensure that more perpetrators of these despicable crimes are caught and brought to justice.”
